- Protein is the first key thing to always focus on in balancing your diet,
but what about the carbohydrates you eat?
You can cut lots of Calories by cutting down on carbs from refined starchy foods!! Humans began farming grains about 10,000 years ago and they ate milled whole grains like wheat, rice, quinoa, and corn by crushing them into foods they could digest as mush or simple baked foods. About 250 years ago, industrial flour manufacturing separated the nutritional parts of the grain including the fiber and vitamin-rich coating of the grains and the phytonutrient and vitamin-rich germ of the grain from the calorie-rich starch at the center of the grain which could be made into white flour for breads, white rice, corn meal and other starchy foods a including high fat/ high sugar snack foods. As long as there was lots of physical work and long hours, these foods provided needed energy. Then 50 years ago, high fat/high sugar snacking and less physical activity led to a global epidemic of obesity. Surveys showed that global human ate 505 more Calories per day in 2010 than in 1970 mostly from grains (582 vs 409 Calories) and added fats (589 vs 346 Calories) .
Most sugar and salt is hidden in processed foods as added sugar calories only increased about 30 Calories (367 vs 333). So cut down on starchy foods in your diet including bread, cereals, pasta, rice, white potatoes, and beans that have about 250 Calories per serving and eat some whole grains along with seven servings of colorful fruits and vegetables.
